FEBRUARY 2008 02/01/08 FRIDAY - 03/31/08 MONDAY The Carnegie Building The gallery will feature paintings and crafts that reflect the colors of Valentine sweetness, romance and flowers to brighten the winter and celebrate Valentine’s Day. FREE, Open to the public. ------------------------------ 02/11/08 MONDAY Demonstration by painter Helene Yu-June Rice. Inspiration for Helene’s paintings often comes from her love of nature. Helene’s Chinese brush painting, which she studied in her native Taiwan, and later in Japan and Vietnam, connects her to her Chinese culture. Her extensive studies of structured brush strokes enable her to capture nature’s shapes on watercolor paper. She studied western styles of watercolor painting with excellent artists at the Jade Fon Watercolor workshops, Chabot College, and the California College of Arts and Crafts where she received her B.F.A. degree in painting. She continually experiments, striving for new effects, challenged to use both Chinese and Western techniques to capture the spirit of her subjects. In her book, TRANSITION, the styles of her paintings range from classical Chinese Brush Painting through realism to the abstract. Helene is an avid volunteer, actively participating as a guest artist in the CWA Outreach Education program, and teaching brush painting at California Watercolor Association’s Concord Gallery. Almond Avenue School FREE, Open to the public. |
