PAL/LAA General Meeting: Mark Monsarrat Conducts a Plein-air Workshop
-
What:
Mark Monsarrat is a longtime plein-air and
studio painter of oil landscapes in the
Craftsman style, following the classic
traditions of the Hudson River School, Early
California painters, and the California
Impressionists. With a background in
engineering, Mark holds a BFA in drawing from
the California College of the Arts and an MFA
in painting from the Academy of Art University
in San Francisco. A winner of many awards for
his work, Monsarrat participates in juried
paintouts, art shows and competitions, and
teaches painting classes and workshops.
For our demonstration Mark will re-create the plein-air experience from photo reference, as he reveals his unique tonal-colorist approach using his customary limited palette. The artist will create a new painting, demonstrating everything from site selection and the thumbnail sketch, through canvas preparation, to paint mixing and application, and on to eventual completion. He will also be announcing his upcoming classes and events, and his demonstration painting will be available for sale after the demo.
- Where: Almond Avenue School
- When: February 21, 7:30 pm.
