My interest in painting began at an early age. It wasn't
until I was
in college that I fully embraced my passion for creating
abstract art.
For me, painting is an emotional outlet. While others keep
journals
and diaries or make scrap books to express euphoria,
grief, humour,
loneliness, and determination, I paint to convey these
feelings. I use
a variety of colours on each canvas, the primary criterion
of choice
being the particular mood I’m feeling and the way I want
to convey it.
I’ve always been fascinated by the works of Robert
Rauschenberg and
Wassily Kandinsky. Their various techniques and colour
palettes have
influenced my own approach to paint and the canvas.
Another
inspiration for me is Canadian artist Emily Carr, whose
brush-stroke
texture is something I try to imitate in my own paintings.
I have
improvised and developed my own techniques to achieve the
same
texture, using tissue paper instead of a brush.
