Color Code |
© W. Hackett
Angela Johal's abstract pieces in oil, acrylic, mixed
media and collage are inspired by the natural world:
abstract shapes in eucalyptus bark, reflections on water,
gemstones, bird feathers, the human form, flowers,
waterfalls, grapes, tribal shapes, spirals, aerial views,
the land, sea and sky.
Johal's latest works draw from pop culture, consumerism,
and the sea of images and choices that tend to leave one
void. "Embrace them, infuse them with the natural world,
re-arrange and decode them, give them a soul." In the
Intersecting Color collage series, Johal combines varying
slices of paint chips inspired by the interlocking weave
of a bird's nest, a basket, an aerial view of a city. The
Human Barcode collage is made up of scannable barcodes
that form the shape of the human thumbprint "the whorl".
Color Code takes the spiral which is imbedded in all of
nature and brings order to the bombardment of color
choices and visual stimuli that confront us on a daily
basis.
