Art has always been part of my life, it is what I excel at. "We are all geniuses only in different subjects." I am not comparing myself to the great masters, I am more a folk artist, painter, and master of green.

My formal art education is from CCAC in Oakland, California, where, in 1971, I received a BA in Fine Art. Later came a BA in Management from Saint Mary's College of California in 1991.

The time spent between then and now, the travels throughout California and to places like Santa Fe, with its Rio Grande High Style, Indian Art, and Georgia O'Keeffe; the Adirondacks of New York State, the craftsmen who built its great rustic camps; the minimalist art like that of Frank Stella, Kenneth Noland, and Jackson Pollock; all of this and more have bored into my psyche and shaped my eye.

When it comes to my Folk Art Furniture - whether it be contemporary, industrial, or rustic elegance, I consider myself an urban forester. Before green was GREEN, I have worked with recycled wood, urban milled wood, and other salvaged material. I not only use this material, but am influenced and inspired by it.

When it comes to my paintings I am a minimalist, geometric, abstract painter. I aim for simplicity of image, contrasted with a complexity of color relationships, culminating in a painting where the frame is a integral part of the overall image.

In all of my Art, I aim to communicate through a sense of feeling, of instinct. My Art is not meant to have a meaning, instead I aspire to touch you.

I have been building custom Art Furniture for over 12 years, working with customers and their decorators from Alaska to Texas, Denver to Durango, Colorado, and all over the state of California.

You can see more of my Art Furniture in Truckee CA at TIPPY CANOE or on my website.
