Grapes By Flashlight
My name is Mary Katherine Feit; I sign my paintings Mary
Katherine. I have lived throughout California from LA to
the San Joaquin Valley to the Livermore Valley at present.
I lived and played with the grape vines and related
industry as a child in the Valley and as an adult. Nature
continues to attract me. I worked with oils briefly, but
have focused on acrylic and watercolors in the past 25
years. My feelings are better expressed through my
paintings than my words.
I graduated from Cal. State. Univ. at Fresno, taught art
in Fresno and Bakersfield. I studied under Ralph Holman,
Joyce Aiken, Judy Chicago and Charles Gaines. In 1987 I
started Mary Katherine Designs, hand painting with fabric
dyes and paints a line of scarves, large draping - one of
a kind paintings to complement the clothing of Isabel
Bardeau, a French designer. In two years, I produced 200
dozen silk scarves to color match a line of solid colored
clothing.
While raising three children, I taught painting at Lori
Brock Children's Museum in Bakersfield, provided
consulting for interior designs in homes and businesses. I
have traveled to art centers at Dresden, Meissen, Berlin,
Prague, Florence, Rome, Venice, Paris Marseilles, Aix en
Provence and Calcutta. My work has been represented in
commercial buildings, residences and the LA Design Center.
I have had a life long dream of creating a life focused
on artistic expression more than teaching or writing about
it; putting life through the dance of the pigments on
canvas or any other medium. A resident of Livermore the
past four years, I am now starting to engage, participate
in and share with the local art community. In the 2009 LAA
Spring Art show, my "The Last Row" was awarded Best
Oil/Acrylic in show.
