Let the artist beware! Several people on the LAA website have gotten “inquiries” from “Richard Leigh,” a so-called potential buyer. He “has interest in it.” No artwork or price is mentioned, but he wants “it” saved for him. English is fractured, return address is rocketmail. The way these scammers get the money is: You tell him the amount that he owes you. He sends you a cashier’s check for too much money. He asks you to deposit his check and write him a check for the overage and send it to him (maybe along with the paintings too). His check turns out to be phoney (it takes awhile for the bank to realize this). Meanwhile, your very real check is in his wallet.
