A California native, Joanna's early inspirations come from nature, by way of memories of her father's flower garden, trips to the coast and to the redwoods. She is very interested in the patterns and textures found in the nature's palette. More recently she has been inspired by the "Arts and Crafts" and "de Stijl" movements. Joanna has been concentrating more on the purely aesthetic quality of her work rather than a subject or meaning.

Though Joanna still enjoys portraits, she is very excited about creating abstract work that says something different to each person; drawing her audience into her work and allowing them their own personal experience. Her most recent work has been inspired by her love of vintage automobiles and the culture surrounding them; this is most evident in her take on traditional pinup art.
